2009
Formula 1 Etihad Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Following extensive involvement in track preparation
at the Bahrain F1 and Silverstone for the British
Grand Prix, Roadgrip were invited to apply the
track markings at the stunning new circuit on
Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
The initial scope of works was to apply the two
edge lines and paint the kerbs. This evolved into
apply a 2m wide Yas Marina Blue tramline on both
sides of the track, and the iconic Philippe Gurdjian
inspired run off designs in Marina Blue, Ivory
and Red. To put the task in hand into perspective,
the Run Off designs were started 2 weeks before
the lights turned green to signal the start of
the last race of the season.
Towards the end of the project Roadgrip had a
team of 10 at the track working late into the
night under the track Floodlights to achieve the
spectacular end product unveiled to the Motorsports
world on November 1st 2009.
By the end of the project, 3000 Gallons of Paint
had been applied to 60,000m2 of new surfaces over
9 intensive weeks. Alongside this, there was time
to detail and finish 2 full pit lanes, 2 starting
grids and 3 temporary heli-pads!
